BOXGIRLS M&E APP

We have developed a monitoring and evaluation system app that aims at streaming and easing the process of following the participants in various programs that Boxgirls Kenya is running in different parts of the country. The app can be easily downloaded on the google play store but only authorized persons are allowed to have access to it.

PARTICIPATION IN OLYMPIC 2021

Two of our Boxgirls Alumni’s have participated in the Olympics One of them being Christine Ongare who Faught in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo while Alumni and Coach Elizabeth Adhiambo was the first woman to represent Kenya in Boxing in 2012.

FIRST NATIONAL TEAM WOMAN COACH

Jane Onyango alias Sonko Msoto is the first woman coach selected in the National Team and through this she has been able to different workshop organized by the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) and this has allowed her to grow and also nature a lot of young girls and women who pass through her hands of coaching.

WITH AND FOR GIRLS’ AWARDS 2015

We won the with and for girls awards in 2015, the world’s first Africa-rooted global fund for girls’ activist and their allies resourcing girls resistance across the globe.

SPORTS ADMINISTRATOR AT BOXGIRLS KENYA

Sarah Achieng who is our sports administrator is a jack of all trade; she is a coach and a professional boxer holding four belts. The first belt she ever won was the National belt in Kenya, East and Central Africa belt, the Universal Boxing federation that she won in Russia and she is currently the Common Wealth Light welter champion a belt that she won against Aneesha Basheel of Malawi. Sarah is using boxing to impact the lives of so many young girls through coaching and facilitating in the communities.

THE MENSTRUAL HEALTH BOOTH

We recently launched the menstrual health booth in different schools dubbed as the “Uzuri Project” and with this project girls and young women from disadvantaged communities will receive adequate information on puberty, menstrual health management and have access to menstrual hygiene products. The aim of the menstrual health booth is to foster a gender-equitable environment that supports girls’ menstrual health and school attendance.

GIRLS NOT BRIDE/SDG FORUM KENYA/AGIP

We as an Organization are glad to be in partnership with Girls Not Bride/ The SDG Forum Kenya/AGIP. The girls not bride is committed to ending child marriages and enabling girls to fulfil their potential. As members of the SDG Forum in Kenya, this will allow us to engage government and development actors towards the implementation of the sustainable development goals in Kenya.

SAFEGUARDING BOXES

We have developed a safeguarding tool in schools to have access to matters affecting our participants pertaining safeguarding. The safeguarding boxes have been distributed to all the schools that we work with and the participants have the liberty to write issues.

COMMUNITY PERCEPTION HAS CHANGED

As an organization we are proud to say that the community perception in terms of allowing more girls to participate in boxing training and on top of that we have witnessed men and young boys coming in to support the girls who are taking up boxing as a sport. Community engagement is one thing we can attest to by seeing community members joining in championing the rights of women and girls.

HER CHAMPION MOVEMENT

We have an active girl’s rights movement. Her champion movement is aiming at building a society free from any violation of rights and freedom. It is an umbrella of 21 Organizations listed below

Sports en Commune Award

We were honoured to receive the Award for the Sports en Commune Foundation in 2022 as the Best Organization under the Category of Sports and Health. This came after we Launched a Menstrual Health Booth in 2021 geared towards eradicating period poverty and giving girls Access to sanitary towels

5th Edition of DIAR AWARDS

Boxgirls Kenya was recognized in the 5th Edition of DIAR AWARDS (National Diversity and Inclusion awards) The DIAR Awards is an initiative that recognizes organizations who champion for diversity and promote equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace and society. The organization was recognized under the category for " COMMUNITY FOCUSED / BASED ORGANIZATION" amongst incredible organizations, it was such an honor.

Sports Personality Award Of The Year

Sarah Achieng, the sports administrator and girls Coach at the Organization was awarded the " SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE MONTH DECEMBER AWARD 2022" by the SPORTS JOURNALIST ASSOCIATION OF KENYA in collaboration with LG. This award was a clear indication that Boxing is challenging societal norms and breaking gender stereotypes by applauding the good work that Women in boxing are doing.
